ITALY : CINQUE TERRE
Cinque Terre was so memorable for us; the water, the cliffs, the hiking, seafood, etc. It was our only seaside stop and was actually a last minute destination due to The Amalfi Coast's less-than-promising 3 day forecast. Although bummed from not checking Amalfi off the list, we could NOT have been more pleased with our plan B in Riomaggiore (one of 5 coastal towns that make up Cinque Terre). The Jacquelyn Daley photos speak for themselves (shameless plug), but it was a surreal experience to say the least. The steep climb to our Airbnb really worked the gluts and the 2 hour hike to the town's tippy top made us feel accomplished while burning off those bottles upon bottles of vino. With Riomaggiore being so tiny, the vibe through town felt quaint and cozy. We pigged out at the same seafood joint more than once, and were able to grab a train quickly to another of the 5 towns along the water. Mild and sunny for most of our stay, Cinque Terre had me layered and casual in the wardrobe department. My only tricks to looking polished included 1. doing my hair and 2. throwing a sleek, tailored jacket on. Everything else can be uber casual and secretly even a little messy. The jacket was one of my Florence shopping finds from Zara (ah!. . . where else)?! Try my clean-hair, clean-jacket trick and see how many compliments you get on looking "so fancy" when you're actually. . kind of . .not.
